It was Star's turn be galloped on the track, and Lainey had just come back from exercising someone else's horse. Star had been a little hyper active that morning, her sleek, dappled coat was a starting to grow into her fuzzy winter one. Puffs of morning steam blew from her nostrils, and her stride was bouncy. Lainey got a leg up from someone, and she guided the mare onto the track. Her mane bounced up and down, as she trotted up onto the track. She knew she was only supposed to gallop her 7 furlongs, her strongest point. Lainey knew that Star would have no problems with that length.
Easily rocking her into the canter, Star's feet evenly pounded into the soft dirt. One two three, one two three. Lainey counted quietly in her head. Star grabbed at the bit with her mouth, wanting to go faster. The other horses on the track were easily galloping by them, and Star was having none of it. She wanted to go, and she wanted to go NOW. The girl let the mare have her head, picking up the pace at the half-mile pole. Star easily bounded forward, ears pricked and on high alert. Her breath came in even puffs, blowing back into the girl's face. Star snorted, sending drops of wet snot back against the wind. Lainey was lucky she wore goggles. Crouching low on the mare's dappled neck, Star needed no further urging. She went without hezitation, as the finish pole came rushing up to meet them. Patting the mare on her neck, she was sure she could easily break her maiden title soon.
